Christoph Stadel

Christoph Stadel (born June 6, 1938 in Donaueschingen ) is an Austrian - Canadian geographer . From 1992 to 2004 he was a full professor and has since been a professor emeritus at the University of Salzburg .

Life

Christoph Stadel studied geography, history and political science from 1957 to 1962, among others with Friedrich Metz and Arnold Bergstraesser , at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau. During this time he took the summer semester 1958 with Wilhelm Lauer at the University of Kiel with the subjects geography and geology. He continued his studies at the University of Friborg , Switzerland, on to graduate in 1962 on the social structure of Palmyra (Syria) and was there with Jean-Luc Piveteau 1964 Dr. phil. with a comparative urban geography dissertation on Beirut, Damascus and Aleppo .

From 1964 to 1967 he was a teacher at the International College Le Rosey in Rolle / Gstaad , Switzerland and from 1967 to 1968 at Hillfield Strathallan College , Hamilton, Ontario , Canada. In 1968 he became a Lecturer, then Assistant and Associate Professor at the Department of Geography at the University of Brandon (Manitoba) , Canada, and there in 1982 Full Professor. Guest professorships took him to Bern and repeatedly to Salzburg, where he took over the chair of the Kinzl student Helmut Heuberger from 1992 and from 1998–1999 also headed the institute. From 2000 Stadel was a member of the scientific editorial board of the journal Mountain Research and Development of the International Mountain Society . Since 2004 he has been working scientifically as Professor Emeritus.

Research topics

His scientific focus is on rural areas, agricultural geography and mountain research . From a regional point of view, Stadel mainly deals with the mountain areas of the New World , especially in the tropical Andean countries of Ecuador , Peru and Bolivia , as well as in Canada.
