Christoph Terhechte

Christoph Terhechte (* 1961 in Münster ) is a German journalist and film critic . From 2001 to 2018 he was director of the International Forum for New Cinema at the Berlinale .

Life

After studying political science and journalism in Hamburg , Terhechte started working as a film critic in 1984. In 1987 he became editor of the taz Hamburg. From 1988 he worked as a freelance journalist in Paris for two years and at the same time worked on the editorial team of the European Low Budget Film Forum Hamburg. In 1991, he took over the film department of the Berlin city magazine tip . Since 1997 he has been a member of the selection committee for the forum of the Berlinale and in June 2001 he succeeded Ulrich Gregor as head of the forum.

Terhechte further developed the profile of the forum with its political and avant-garde aspirations and that of the Berlinale as a public festival. Under his aegis, the "Forum Expanded" was created, which has been presenting artistic installations of film and video works with changing focuses since 2006. Since 2002 Terhechte was also a member of the selection committee of the Berlinale competition. In July 2018 he gave up the management of the forum and is going to the international film festival in Marrakech as artistic director .

In September 2019 it was announced that he would take over as the successor to Leena Pasanen as artistic director and artistic director of the Dok-Filmfestival Leipzig on January 1st, 2020 .
