Christoph of Baden-Durlach (1684–1723)
Christoph von Baden-Durlach (born October 9, 1684 at Karlsburg in Durlach ; † May 2, 1723 in Karlsruhe ) was Prince and (titular) Margrave of Baden-Durlach .
Christoph was the son of Margrave Friedrich VII of Durlach and Augusta Maria von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf (* February 6, 1649, † April 25, 1728), the daughter of Duke Friedrich III. from Holstein-Gottorp . He was the brother of Margrave Karl Wilhelm, who ruled from 1709 .
Marriage and offspring
Christoph von Baden-Durlach married Marie Christine Felizitas zu Leiningen-Dagsburg-Falkenburg-Heidesheim (* December 30, 1692 - June 3, 1734) on December 4, 1711 , the daughter of Count Johann Karl August von Leiningen-Dagsburg and Countess Johanna Magdalena von Hanau- Lichtenberg. The following children were born from the marriage:
- Karl August (born November 14, 1712; † September 30, 1786), later regent of Baden-Durlach (guardian government (for Karl Friedrich )); married Juliane Schmid (later Baroness von Ehrenberg)
- Karl Wilhelm Eugen (born November 13, 1713; † May 9, 1783); embarked on a military career; In 1743 he was a member of the custodial government (for Karl Friedrich ) of Baden-Durlach together with his brother
- Christoph (June 5, 1717 - December 18, 1789), married on November 28, 1779 Katharina Höllischer Freifrau von Freydorf (June 26, 1745 - July 23, 1811)
After Christoph's early death, his widow married Duke Johann Wilhelm von Sachsen-Eisenach in 1727 , who she married as the fourth wife.
Since two sons entered into morganatic marriages and one son remained single, this branch of the family could not contribute to the preservation of the Baden-Durlach house when the dispute over the right to inheritance of the descendants of Grand Duke Karl Friedrich from the morganatic marriage with Luise Karoline Geyer von Geyersberg began.
