The Christ Church is a Protestant church in the Avenwedde -Bahnhof district of the East Westphalian district town of Gütersloh . Like the Johanneskirche , it belongs to the Evangelical Church Community of Friedrichsdorf , which belongs to the Gütersloh parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

At the end of the 1950s, the Protestant community in the Avenwedder station district had around 600 members who visited the Johanneskirche in Friedrichsdorf for the services. The merchant Gottfried Güth gave the parish a 3,500 square meter plot of land on the condition that a “parish center” be built there.

The foundation stone for the church with its 150 seats was laid on November 1st, 1964. The construction costs of 250,000 D-Marks were covered by the community, the district synod and the diaspora aid of the regional church.

For financial reasons, the community initially decided not to build a church tower. This was built in 1968.

In 1974 the existing harmonium was replaced by an organ made by Emil Hammer Orgelbau . In 1982 the neighboring community center was built.

To mark the 25th anniversary of its completion, the Christ Church was completely renovated in 1990. On the 50th anniversary of the church in 2015, the congregation had around 4,400 members.
