The Christ Church in Bad Schwartau

The Christ Church in Bad Schwartau ( Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein ) is an Evangelical Lutheran church of the northern church . Together with the Georgskapelle , it is the church for the municipality of the Schwartau districts of Kaltenhof and Schwartau .

history

For centuries Schwartau belonged to the parish of Rensefeld with the Rensefelder Church and the Georgskapelle. Due to the population growth, two pastors were employed from 1945 and the parish was divided in 1960. After 1945 the prayer room in the Lutherhaus was used as a kindergarten for the entire community. The political community acquired the Lutherhaus, the parish moved to the corner of Berlinerstrasse and Auguststrasse and opened a kindergarten there in 1959. The construction of the Christ Church then began with the laying of the foundation stone on July 1, 1960. A new church building that had already been planned had not been realized due to inflation.

building

The church was 1960/1961 to plans by the Hamburg architect firm Grundmann and Sandtmann of brown brick built, steel and concrete, and on 26 June 1961 by Eutin Bischof Wilhelm Kieckbusch ordained .

The building is characterized by clear forms - in the style of classical modernism - whereby the tower is based on the natural shape of a rock crystal , to which the dragon-shaped nave adjoins in a clear alignment . Graduated from this is a trapezoidal structure that is used for meetings.

In the 1980s, damage occurred to the tower caused by the vibrations of the bells. As part of the repair work, the tower was clad with sheet copper .

The windows on both sides of the tower in the nave are designed in blue and show the four symbols of the evangelists .

The dominant element of the room is the picture-decorated altar crown - a metal wreath that is hung on poles above the altar .
