Chromium (III) acetylacetonate is a chemical compound of chromium from the group of acetylacetonates .
Extraction and presentation
Chromium (III) acetylacetonate can be obtained by reacting solutions of chromium (III) salts such as chromium (III) chloride with acetic acid.
properties
Chromium (III) acetylacetonate is a purple-colored, odorless solid that is practically insoluble in water. It has a monoclinic crystal structure with the space group P 2 1 / c (space group no. 14) . The compound begins to sublime to a green vapor at 100 ° C.
use
Chromium (III) acetylacetonate is used to modify the surface properties of solid polyurethanes formed in their presence. It also serves as a catalyst for the oxidation of methacrylic acid esters by hydrogen peroxide and is used to phlegmatize nitromethane . Due to its solubility in non-polar organic solvents and its paramagnetism, it is also used as a relaxation agent in NMR spectroscopy .
