Chrysanthia are a genus of beetles from the family of the shamrock beetles (Oedemeridae) with a Palearctic distribution.

description

The types of Chrysanthia are between 5 and 11 mm long and have a metallic shiny green color. They can also shimmer golden or copper. The mandibles are split in two at the top, the eyes are small, the antennae are long with 11 limbs. The prothorax is heart-shaped, the cover wings are subparallel and provided with four longitudinal ribs. In some species, the wing covers also have bristles. The legs are thin, but in some males the hind legs are thickened. The claws of the tarsus are not toothed.

18 species and subspecies with a disjoint distribution area are known. 11 species occur evenly from Europe via the Siberian taiga to central China and Japan . A second group of 7 species inhabits coniferous forests on the south side of the Himalayas, Karakoram and Hindu Kush . The steppe areas of Central Asia, which are not populated, lie between the two groups .

Way of life

Chrysanthia species live exclusively in coniferous forests, and it is believed that their larvae develop in dead wood . The adults are diurnal flower visitors and feed on pollen .
