Chuck (first name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chuck is a male given name common in the English (American) language area.

origin

The name is a variant of the given name Charles . The variant was originally formed as a nickname. Charles goes back to the old French Charles or Carles and the Latin Carolus to old high German karal ("man, husband, beloved", from which new high German Karl ), which in turn derives from ancient German * karlaz ("free man; small, young man; old man", a diminutive to * karaz "man") is to be derived. Even with the Old Germanic and Old High German word, one can assume a pet form that led from “my little man” to “dear husband”.

Variations

The diminutive pet form Chucky is famous due to a horror film of the same name from the 1970s.
