Chuck Gaspar

Charles "Chuck" Gaspar (born January 5, 1938 - January 15, 2009 ) was an American special effects artist .

Life

Gaspar began his career in the early 1960s and made his feature film debut in 1963 with Alfred Hitchcock's thriller The Birds . Between 1977 and 1988 he worked on 10 films with Clint Eastwood in the lead role, who also directed six of the films; starting with The Man Who Never Gives Up to The Death Game . In addition to Hitchcock and Eastwood, Gaspar also worked under the directors Stanley Kramer , Woody Allen and John Sturges, among others .

1985 he was for Ivan Reitman's comedy Ghostbusters - Ghostbusters together with Richard Edlund , John Bruno and Mark Vargo for the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects nominated, but the award went this year to Steven Spielberg's adventure film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom . In 2014 , Gaspar was posthumously awarded the Oscar for Technical Merit for developing a pneumatic device that could cause cars to roll over . The award was shared with John Frazier and Clay Pinney .
