Chunga's Revenge is a music album from the Mothers of Invention .

The album was released on October 23, 1970 on Bizarre Records and was recorded by an almost completely new line-up of the Mothers. With Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman , Zappa engaged the former singers of the successful pop group The Turtles . The content of the album is more focused on the life of a rock group and many of the pieces deal with aspects of sexuality. Formally, the tone becomes more satirical and less subtle. The album has been criticized as reactionary and misogynistic. In terms of content, some of the pieces already refer to the later film 200 Motels .

reception

Music critic Mike Fish described Chunga's Revenge as an outrageous but entertaining mess. Kelly Fisher Lowe sees the album, in contrast to many critics who described it as misogynous and reactionary, a "tame statement" that cultural criticism expresses, but no longer takes a position on the more politically weighty issues, such as the collapse of the student movement.
