Bongo Fury is a music album with mostly live pieces by Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart , which was released in 1975. The live performances were recorded on May 20 and 21, 1975 at Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas . The studio tracks were recorded in January 1975 during the sessions for the Zappa albums One Size Fits All and Studio Tan .
Bongo Fury was the last album that Zappa recorded with the musicians of his early 1970s band lineup, who also performed on Apostrophe (') and Roxy & Elsewhere . The vocals on Advance Romance and Carolina Hard-Core Ecstasy are by Napoleon Murphy Brock . Captain Beefheart , on what is probably the only tour with Zappa's band, provides the vocals for various songs and speaks two short prose texts, Sam With the Showing Scalp Flat Top and Man With the Woman Head. Terry Bozzio , who was Zappa's regular drummer between 1975 and 1978, also played on Bongo Fury .
