Cinchonine is a china alkaloid . Structurally, it is one of the quinoline alkaloids and is the most important minor alkaloid of quinine . It is a crystalline, odorless powder. The compound is a diastereomer of cinchonidine .

Occurrence

Cinchonine occurs in many species of Cinchona ( Rubiaceae ) and is isolated from the bark of the tree.

Cinchonine works against malaria , but is not as effective as quinine .

use

Cinchonine can be used for the resolution of racemates and for the precipitation of bismuth , cadmium , germanium , molybdenum and tungsten .
