Ciro Polito (born April 12, 1979 in Naples ) is an Italian football goalkeeper .

Club career

Ciro Polito received a professional contract in 1997 with his club and then second division Salernitana Sport , but could not prevail against the local goalkeeper Daniele Balli and his representative Andrea Ivan . The following season he was loaned to Rimini Calcio , where he gained match practice in the fourth division. In exchange for Lorenzo Squizzi , he moved to US Lucchese Libertas in July 1999 , which had previously been relegated to the third division. There Polito was used five times until the winter break, but Marco Ambrosio remained the goalkeeper . In January 2000 he was awarded to AC Mantova and played there 12 league games by the end of the season. From 2000 to 2002, the goalkeeper played for third division US Avellino and then for one year each for league competitors AC Pistoiese and AC Acireale.

In 2004 Ciro Polito was obliged by the second division Catania Calcio , as was Armando Pantanelli , who was to be the goalkeeper in the following years. Two years later, after a second place in the table, Catania made it to Serie A , Italy's top division. There Polito was used on November 26, 2006 in the 2-0 victory over Parma once. In the second half of the season he was awarded in exchange for Vitangelo Spadavecchia to the second division Delfino Pescara in 1936 , but could no longer prevent their relegation to the third division. After returning to Catania Calcio, he replaced the migrated Pantanelli as a regular goalkeeper. Under the former Italian national goalkeeper Walter Zenga as the new coach of Catania, however, the veteran Albano Bizzarri was given preference again from 2008. Again there was a player swap and Polito switched to US Grosseto on loan . In return, Paolo Acerbis came to Catania from the second division club.

After his return, Polito left Catania for good in 2009 and moved to his youth club Salernitana Calcio . There he was a set goalkeeper, but conceded 80 goals and was knocked off bottom of the Serie B table with his club. He entered the third division with his club and was still in goal during the first half of the season. In the second half of the season he was pushed onto the bench by Nicholas Caglioni , who was obliged to do so on a free transfer . Despite reaching the promotion games Salernitana received no further license for the third division and had to file for bankruptcy. Ciro Polito left the club and was signed by first division promoted Atalanta Bergamo after two months without a club after regular goalkeeper Andrea Consigli sustained an injury.
