Career

Marklund began playing football at Olympia in Stockholm's Kungsholmen district in 1959 . In 1961 he moved to the junior division of local rivals Karlbergs BK . After a success in a youth tournament against the youth team of the first division AIK, the club recruited him in early 1969. Following his youth, he first played in the reserve team. At the age of 23 he finally made his debut in May 1974 in the away game at Landskrona BoIS in the Allsvenskan, when he replaced the injured Rolf Zetterlund . In the following months still mostly supplementary player, he established himself from the 1975 season in the club's starting lineup. While he was placed in the middle of the league with the team around Yngve Leback , Leif Karlsson , Sven Dahlkvist , Göran Göransson and Jan-Olof Wallgren , he moved into the final of the national cup against Landskrona BoIS with her in 1976. Both in the 1-1 draw in the first final game and the 3-0 success in the replay, he was on the field for the entire duration of the game.

In the following years Marklund was still a regular player. After the team under coach Gunnar Nordahl had slipped into the relegation zone in the 1977 season , Markund's career took a kink in the summer of 1978. In the game against Örebro SK he injured his knee badly during an attack by his opponent and was out for a long time. Although he returned to the regular formation at the beginning of the following season under coach Jens Lindblom , he could no longer call up his old level of performance and made his last appearance for AIK in league football in July on the occasion of his hundreds of first division games. While the club was relegated from Allsvenskan at the end of the year, he moved to third division Spånga IS . Although he rose to the second division with the team, he ended his active career after relegation.

In the mid-1980s, Marklund had to undergo another knee operation. While he worked full-time for Rank Xerox and later Två Typer , he continued to work as a youth coach in the football field. His son Göran Marklund also played football.
