Career

Marklund comes from the youth of Spånga IS , where his father, the former first division player Claes Marklund , was active in the early 1980s. Before the start of the 1996 season, he joined the then second division club Vasalunds IF before he left the club in the summer of 1997 for Scotland. Under coach Tommy McLean was Dundee United with the Scandinavian players Lars Zetterlund , Kjell Olofsson and Erik Pedersen been successful, so that the club Marklund, Magnus Sköldmark and Sigurdur Jónsson took them under contract. After the 100,000 GBP impersonated striker due to the military service had been delayed joined the team and used in some reserve team games, he stood at the end of September duel with Celtic for the first time in the squad. The stay abroad was not accompanied by success, however, as he could not assert himself in the Scottish Premier League . Therefore, he returned to the now third-rate Vasalunds IF.

In early 2000, Marklund moved to FC Café Opera in the Superettan . As a regular goalscorer, he led the team around Niklas Sandberg , Mattias Moström and Daniel Arnefjord into the top half of the table. In the 2003 season he was crowned top scorer in the second highest Swedish league with 23 goals this season and thus aroused high-class desires. Finally, in November of that year, he signed a two-year contract with local rivals AIK . Due to an injury, he only came to seven season appearances in his first season, in which he did not score. After relegation from the Allsvenskan , he contributed with two goals this season in 14 games to the direct return of the team around Daniel Tjernström , Daniel Örlund , Mats Rubarth and Derek Boateng to the first division.

After his contract ended, Marklund left AIK and joined the second division team Assyriska Föreningen . With his new club he was relegated to the third division, but managed to get promoted again with the team. Although repeatedly slowed down by injuries, he was regularly one of the club's top scorers. After the end of the second division season in 2009 , in which the team had only missed promotion to the Allsvenskan after extra time in the relegation games against Djurgårdens IF , he moved up to the playing assistant coach of Rikard Norling . After his departure to Malmö FF , he took over the team on an interim basis in early summer 2011, and in early August the club signed the Irish Patrick Walker as the new head coach.
