Clara Ponsatí i Obiols , sometimes only briefly Clara Ponsatí , (born March 19, 1957 ) is a Spanish politician and economist . It was in 2017 for several months in the Generalitat de Catalunya for education policy competent Minister .

Career

Ponsatí i Obiols studied at the University of Barcelona , where she graduated in 1980 with a degree in economics. After moving to the Autonomous University of Barcelona , where she completed a Master of Science degree in 1982 , she went to the United States to do a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota until 1988. Member of the Assemblea Nacional Catalana since mid-2016 , the President of the Catalan Autonomous Government Carles Puigdemont appointed Ponsatí i Obiols as Minister of Education in his cabinet in July 2017. After the controversial independence referendum in Catalonia on October 1, 2017 and the subsequent “Declaration of Independence”, she and other cabinet members fled into exile in Brussels. At times wanted with a European arrest warrant , she later returned to Scotland to resume work at the University of St Andrews. After hearings in Scotland in March 2018, non-Spanish prosecutions were dropped in July with the lifting of the European arrest warrant. She is one of 27 MEPs who were elected to the European Parliament in 2019, but will not move up until the UK has left the EU. If the resignation takes place on February 1, 2020, she becomes a member of the European Parliament. She is one of four Catalan MPs who have not yet been accredited as EU MPs by the Spanish Electoral Commission because of an arrest warrant against her. However, on January 6, 2020, the European Parliament recognized the membership of the three other MEPs.

Research and Teaching

The focus of Ponsatí i Obiols' scientific work is in the field of game theory , especially with regard to strategic issues and contract negotiations for cooperative games. Here she published, among other things, aspects related to mediation , but also economic policy topics.

Since 2003 Ponsati i Obiols member of the editorial board of the journal International Journal of Game Theory , since 1999 she has been an editor for the periodical Review of Economic Design .
