Claudia Steinbacher (born Bartsch; born January 18, 1970 in Zschopau ) is a German chess player with the title of International Women's Champion (WIM).

In July 2001 Claudia Steinbacher achieved 4th place at the German Women's Individual Championship in Krefeld , which Jessica Nill won ahead of Anke Koglin . Two years before that, she was third in the German women's championship in Chemnitz , which Elisabeth Pähtz won. In 1988 she became GDR vice-champion of women in blitz chess and, with the BSG Lokomotive Karl-Marx-Stadt, GDR vice team champion in blitz chess. Steinbacher met in the seasons 2001/02 , 2003/04 and 2005/06 of the German women's Bundesliga WIM standards, whereupon she was awarded the WIM title in 2006 on the condition that she achieved an Elo rating of at least 2200. She succeeded in doing this in 2007.

She played 25 years in the women's chess national league from 1993 to 2018 for her club Rodewischer Schachmiezen (until the 1995/96 season as Claudia Bartsch). The Rodewisch chess chicks were runner-up in 1995 , 2005 and 2006. Steinbacher also took part in the 1998 European Women's Club Cup with Rodewisch . She ended her chess career in March 2018. Chess has always been a hobby for her, which she pursued alongside her studies and work. From time to time she would like to play for her old Vogtland club in the future .

National team

She reached 47th place with the third German team at the 2008 Women's Chess Olympiad in Dresden .
