Claus Hecking

Claus Hecking (* 1975 in Vreden ) is a German journalist and political scientist.

Life and work

As a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation , Hecking studied business administration, law and politics at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster , the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and the Université Libre in Brussels . During this time he wrote for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . After his doctorate as Dr. phil. On the nationality dispute between Flemings and Walloons in Belgium , he completed a television, radio and online traineeship at Deutsche Welle in Bonn, Berlin and Brussels in 2003 and 2004 .

From 2004 to 2005, Hecking worked as a spokesman in the corporate communications and politics department at BMW . From 2005 onwards he worked as a reporter and Brussels correspondent for the Financial Times Deutschland and Capital , and from 2015 onwards as a business editor for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . Since 2017 he has been an author for Spiegel Online and an editor at Capital focusing on energy , Europe , aviation and globalization . In 2018, he and the journalists Georg Fahrion and Volker Pabst won the German Journalism Prize in the world economy category for the article “China's New Plan”.

With his wife Mirjam Hecking, he runs the Total Global blog , which reports on international business.
