Clemens Dreyer received his first drum lessons in 1976 and from 1977 played as a concert drummer with the Ludwigshafen Youth Wind Orchestra , with whom he undertook concert tours to Israel and Russia. From 1981 to 1984 he studied at the State Academy of Music in Cologne majoring in classical percussion at Christoph Caskel and came to New Music . From 1983 he appeared at various concerts in the field of contemporary music, such as with Hans Werner Henze or Péter Eötvös .

From 1983 to 1996 Dreyer gave drum lessons at the music school in Neuss .

In 1984 he joined the existing chanson duo of the singer and lyricist Joe Knipp and the composer and guitarist Albrecht Zummach , who had also studied at the Cologne University of Music, as a vibraphonist . The three musicians formed the band Zinnober , which has since played with the same line-up: Joe Knipp (lyrics, vocals), Albrecht Zummach (composition, guitar instruments) and Clemens Dreyer (vibraphone). The trio gave guest performances throughout Germany with their German-language chansons and toured the republic especially in the 1980s. After a 12-year break, the band made their comeback in 1998 and have been giving concerts again since then, for example in Cologne in the old pawn shop or in the red salon .
