description

Flower with six white bracts and stamens each, with yellow anthers.

Clintonia uniflora grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 15 to 25 centimeters. There are rhizomes formed as Überdauerungsorgane. Two to three leaves are formed on the stem . With a length of 8 to 20 centimeters and a width of 2.5 to 6.5 centimeters, the obverse-lanceolate to obovate leaf blade has a light green leaf upper side.

The flowering period extends from May to July. The upright, terminal inflorescences contain only a narrow, linear bract and one or two flowers. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six cream-white colored bracts of the same shape are 18 to 25 millimeters long and 5 to 7 millimeters wide and are inverted-lanceolate to inverted-egg-shaped. The six stamens consist of 11 to 18 millimeters long stamens inserted into the base of the bloom and elongated, linear anthers with a length of 3.5 to 5.5 millimeters.

When ripe, shiny dark blue colored berries are formed, with a diameter of 6 to 12 millimeters, almost spherical to pear-shaped and contain 10 to 18 seeds. The seeds are 3 to 4 millimeters in size.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.

Systematics

The first description was made in 1829 by Archibald Menzies as a variety Smilacina borealis Ker Gawler var. Uniflora Menzies ex Schultes in Joseph August Schultes & Julius Hermann Schultes : Systema Vegetabilium , 7 (1), p 307. William Jackson Hooker gave her in 1839 to the rank of Art Smilacina uniflora. In: Flora Boreali-Americana. 2, p. 175. Karl Sigismund Kunth placed them in 1850 in Enumeratio Plantarum Omnium Hucusque Cognitarum , 5, p. 159 under the name Clintonia uniflora (Menzies ex Schult. & Schult. F.) Kunth in the genus Clintonia .
