Cnestis is a plant kind from the family of connaraceae .
description
Cnestis are lianas , climbing shrubs or small trees . The leaves are pinnate unpaired, the leaflets are opposite or nearly opposite. The inflorescence is a panicle , grape or fascicle and grows either from the armpits or directly from the trunk ( cauliflora ). The mostly heterodistyled , rarely homostyled flowers are hermaphroditic and five-fold.
The sepals are not overgrown, the petals mostly bare, rarely covered with isolated hairs on the outside. The ten stamens are bare and either unwaxed or fused to form a tube at the base. The styles are often hairy at the base, the scar shaped like a head or rounded. There are five carpels , the fruits are weakly or not stalked follicles , which are densely tomentose and are occasionally provided with long, stiff hairs on the outside, when ripe it opens.
The shiny seeds are individually attached to the base of the bellows and have a fleshy outer layer, the so-called sarcotesta , which covers the base of the seed. The endosperm is plentiful, the cotyledons are large and thin, the radicle is pointed.
