Cody Kunyk (born May 20, 1990 in Sherwood Park , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League and should play for them on the position of the center .
Career
Kunyk began his ice hockey career at the age of 13 at the ice hockey club in his hometown of Sherwood Park . There he played for a total of seven years in the appropriate teams for his age - including the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the Alberta Junior Hockey League .
From 2010 to 2014, Kunyk was on the ice for the University of Alaska Fairbanks ice hockey team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and Western Collegiate Hockey Association - both divisions in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In his senior year, Kunyk was voted WCHA's Player of the Year. Furthermore, after finishing his studies at the end of the 2013/14 season , Kunyk completed a game for Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League , which the undrafted free agent had signed for a year in March 2014. In the 2014/15 season Kunyk finally made his debut in the American Hockey League . There he ran for Tampa's farm team Syracuse Crunch and reached 26 points scorer in 71 missions.
The following year Kunyk moved to the Grizzlys Wolfsburg from the German Ice Hockey League . After completing four games in preparation, however, the club pulled a release clause in the contract because the Canadian could not meet expectations. Later he therefore signed a contract with the Gentofte Stars from the Danish Metal Ligaen , where he was appointed team captain.
In the summer of 2016, the striker returned to the American continent and completed the 2016/17 season again in the AHL with the Utica Comets . For the 2017/18 season , Kunyk moved to the German Ice Hockey League for the Straubing Tigers . Shortly before the start of the season, however, it was announced that Kunyk is leaving the Tigers for purely private reasons.
International
In the junior area, Kunyk took part in the World Junior A Challenge 2009 with the selection Canada West . In five tournament appearances, the striker collected ten scorer points and, as the top scorer and top scorer of the tournament, played a key role in winning the silver medal.
