Colchicum cretense is a species of the genus autumn crocus ( Colchicum ) in the family of colchicaceae (Colchicaceae). It wasfirst describedby Werner Greuter in 1967.

Colchicum cretense is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 6 to 16 centimeters. This geophyte forms sprouts as persistence organs. The leaves are usually absent during flowering and do not appear until spring. The petals measure (15) 17 to 23 (27) × (2) 3 to 5.5 millimeters. The anthers are yellowish gray, brownish gray or dark purple gray and measure 2.5 to 3.5 (4.5) millimeters.
The flowering period extends from (September) October to November (May).
Occurrence
Colchicum cretense is on Crete in the regional districts of Chania , Rethymno and Lasithi endemic . The species grows in hedgehog cushion heaths and rubble dumps on limestone at altitudes of (1050) 1200 to 2300 meters.
