Colin McNab (born July 3, 1961 in Dundee ) is a Scottish chess master.

McNab is a contributor to The Scottish Chess magazine and author of chess books. He is also a doctor of math . He graduated from the University of Oxford .

successes

Close chess

McNab has been one of Scotland's top players since the early 1980s. He won the Scottish Championship four times (1983, 1991, 1993 and 1995). Between 1980 and 2014 he took part in 17 Chess Olympiads with the Scottish national team (only in 1998 he did not take part), making him the Scottish record player. He took part in the European Team Championship for Scotland three times (1989, 1992 and 2005) , each time playing on the first board. In 1992, after Paul Motwani, he became the second Scot in history to be awarded the title of Grand Master by FIDE . In 2003 he shared second place in Klaksvík , at the turn of 2003/04 he achieved a significant success in Hastings , when he shared second place behind Sachar Jefymenko with Bartosz Soćko and Bogdan Lalić . In 2005 he finished third at the Howard Staunton Memorial in London and won at Coulsdon . The following year he shared first place in the same place.

In the Four Nations Chess League McNab played in the 1996/97 season with Northumbria , from 1998 to 2006 with Slough , with whom he was British team champion in 1999 and 2000 ; since 2008 he has been playing for White Rose .

Correspondence chess

Until 2005 McNab was also active in correspondence chess. In 1993 he was awarded the title of International Correspondence Chess Master, and in 1999 that of Merited International Master.

Solving chess problems

At the 28th World Championship in solving chess puzzles and studies he finished 31st in Chalkidiki in 2004 , at the 30th World Championship in 2006 in Wageningen he was 10th and was part of the victorious British national team, and in 2008 in Rhodes he finished 40th. He wears the title of International Master in Solving Chess Problems.
