Columbus is a city in the center of the US state Indiana and is located about 60 km south of the state capital Indianapolis . It belongs to Bartholomew County and is its county seat . The city has an area of 68.3 km² and 44,061 inhabitants (2010) .

Columbus is the headquarters of Cummins , the main employer in the region. The US Highway 31 runs through the city in north-south direction. Interstate 65 runs almost parallel west of downtown . Both connect Columbus with the major cities of Indianapolis and Louisville .
