Community Editions is a German book publisher based in Cologne .

The publishing house was founded in 2016 by the publishing group Bastei Lübbe , the Nebenmarktverlag Vemag and Christoph Krachten, managing director of the YouTuber festival VideoDays . He publishes books by popular Internet influencers and by web artists. The books are produced by Vemag, while Bastei Lübbe is responsible for advertising, sales and events. Vemag Verlags- und Medien AG serves markets outside the book trade , especially in the food retail sector . The then chairman of the Bastei-Lübbe board saw Community Editions when it was founded at the "interface between the old and the new media world"; the publisher wanted to bring young people closer to books. When it comes to marketing , he relies on the already existing level of awareness of his authors from their social media activities and the resulting close contact with their fans.

The main focus of the publishing program is lifestyle , beauty and DIY , gaming and sport. The first program appeared in spring 2017, and by April 2018 there were 19 titles. A first sales success was the title Spring in einer Pfütze , an interactive book by YouTubers Viktoria Steiner and Sarina Hütter from Austria (channel: ViktoriaSarina). The first edition of 25,000 copies of the fitness guide Strong & Beautiful by Instagramer Pamela Reif was sold a week after it was published. According to Spiegel , more than a hundred thousand copies were reportedly sold; In April 2017, the book came fourth on the “Gesund & Fit” bestseller list. Forgotten Children by YouTuber Luna Darko , published in March 2017, placed 8th on the Spiegel bestseller list of the fiction paperbacks. The publisher published Luna Darko's work Myko as hardcover in December 2017 . Thoughts in the night and achieved placements over six weeks.

In April 2018, Freedom. The Schmahamas conspiracy by Paluten , web video producer and vlogger , and his co-author Klaas Kern immediately ranked number 1 on the Spiegel bestseller list in the fiction category of hardcover editions, as well as in the Focus bestseller list. In Austria, the book entered the list of the main association of the Austrian book trade at number 10 . This is the first time a YouTuber has achieved first place on a book bestseller list in German-speaking countries. At the end of June 2018, Freedom. The Schmahamas conspiracy, at number 13, continues to be on the Spiegel bestseller list and rose to number 11 again by the beginning of August.

The publisher equips its publications with high-quality equipment in order to provide buyers with a haptic experience, for example with embossing on the cover . The cut is colored, or editions are enclosed with stickers and posters. Community Editions justifies the effort with the fact that the customer target group, who normally move in virtual worlds, longs for something lasting. In his report on the sales success of Paluten's first work, Spiegel author Tobias Becker summed up that his own book was the YouTuber's vinyl record , an object with aura.
