Compton Crook Award
The Compton Crook / Stephen Tall Memorial Award is an American literary prize that has been awarded since 1983 for the best debut novel in the fields of science fiction , fantasy and horror published in the previous year . The award honors the memory of the author Compton Crook (1908–1981), who published science fiction under the pseudonym Stephen Tall . Crook was a professor at Towson University and long lived in Baltimore , Maryland .
The winner will be chosen by members of the Baltimore Science Fiction Society from a list previously published in the association's newsletter. The award will be presented at the Balticon , the annual convention held in the Baltimore area on Memorial Day . The prize pool is $ 1,000.
