The Conesus Lake is one of the smaller lakes in the Finger Lakes in the west of the State of New York .
Conesus Lake is the westernmost of the eleven Finger Lakes. It is 35 km south of Rochester . The outflow of the lake is at its northern end at Hamlet Lakeville in the Town of Livonia in Livingston County . The lake is drained via the Conesus Creek to the Genesee River .
The Conesus Lake was formed as a moraine lake at the end of the last ice age about 10,000 years ago. It has a north-south extension of 13 km and a width between 1 and 1.5 km. The lake lies at an altitude of 249 m and is up to 20 m deep. The Town of Conesus is located near the southern end of the lake .
Conesus Lake Boat Launch is a state park on the east bank near the settlement of Livonia .
In August 2006, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation confirmed that fish in the lake were infected with Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS).
During the winter months, the surface of Conesus Lake freezes and offers opportunities for snowmobiling and ice fishing .
Every year on the evening of July 3rd, the residents in the vicinity of the lake take part in the traditional "Ring of Fire". This is organized by the Conesus Lake Association . An estimated 10,000 Bengali fires will be lit around the lake and fireworks will be held.
