The Canadice Lake [ kænədaɪs ] is one of the smallest Finger Lakes in the US state of New York . It extends in the territory of Ontario County about 30 mi (48 km) south of Rochester from north to south. It serves the city of Rochester together with its western neighbor, Hemlock Lake , as a drinking water reservoir. The name comes from a word from the Haudenosaunee , ska-ne-a-dice , meaning "long lake".
geography
Canadice Lake is 3 mi (4.8 km) long and 0.3 mi (480 m) wide at its widest point. It covers an area of 649 acres (2.63 km²) and has a depth of max. 95 ft (29 m). The coastline is 6.5 mi (10.5 km) long.
The lake is used as a water reservoir for Rochester, so no buildings are allowed on the lake, and boats up to 17 ft (5.2 m) in length and with a maximum engine power of 10 hp are allowed on the lake run. Swimming, camping and water pollution are prohibited. Boating and fishing licenses must be purchased from a kiosk on Hemlock Lake . There is a boat ramp on the east bank of the lake and at the south end.
The highest peaks in the area are Bald Hill ⊙ with 563 m above sea level and Canadice Hill ⊙ , about 4 km southwest of the lake with 671 m height. The lake is a water reserve surrounded by the Hemlock Canadice State Forests . A short distance to the east is Honeoye Lake .
