Conrad Thomas Lant known by the pseudonym, Cronos (* 15. January 1963 ) was from 1979 until 1987 and since 1995 bassist and singer of British Black - / thrash metal - band Venom .
biography
Early life
Cronos calls the Sex Pistols a life changing experience; the punk era was exactly what everyone needed; he even told people that his father was Johnny Rotten , even though he was only about six years older than Cronos. In his time before Venom, he helped out in the Impulse studios and was asked by David Wood to bring “one of these new rock bands” (meaning the representatives of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal [NWoBHM]) into the studio; he also offered Cronos a job in the A&R area for him. Cronos chose the band Tygers of Pan Tang , which he saw performing every week at a club called Mingles (later Idols); their sound carrier was the third release of Woods' record company Neat Records and ensured their success. Cronos discovered many of today's well-known New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands at concerts and also got his own band Venom a contract with Neat Records; it was supposed to “get the search for more brutality rolling” , became another important representative of the NWoBHM and decisively shaped Thrash Metal and Black Metal , among others .
Solo career
In 1988 Cronos left the band to start a solo career with his eponymous band Cronos . He was guest singer on a variety of studio albums by other bands (including Enthroned , Cradle of Filth , Warpath , Massacre and Necrodeath ). He also worked as a producer for several bands of his genre.
Venom tried meanwhile to continue without Cronos, but they brought out only a few albums until they stopped their efforts in 1993 due to lack of success. In 1995, Cronos rejoined Venom and they headlined the Dynamo Festival in 1996 to 90,000 fans.
Current developments
In 2000 Venom headlined the Wacken Open Air and after a one-off concert in the Netherlands the band was forced to take a break of several years due to a climbing accident in Cronos in 2002. The injury did not allow the electric bass to be played or singing. Cronos used the break to devote himself to game design. He studied 3D design and game development and became the main multimedia developer for K-Class Systems and Globalfibre.tv.
Cronos returned to Venom in 2003, bringing his brother Antton with him to take over the drums . He also recruited Michael Alan Hickey. After several years of intensive planning and songwriting, Venom released the album Metal Black on Sanctuary Records in 2006 . Continued to work Cronos 2004 Dave Grohl's heavy metal -Nebenprojekt Probot also with and was on Knights of the 21st Century from the published 2005 album Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken by Hammerfall to hear.
