Consolación del Sur is a municipality and a city in the Cuban province of Pinar del Río .
The country's largest rice-growing area is located here . Tobacco is also grown heavily, as is the case in most of the Pinar del Río province.
There are three churches in the city, founded in 1690: a Roman Catholic near Parque Central and two other Protestant churches.
The Municipio Consolación del Sur has 88,055 inhabitants on an area of 1112 km², which corresponds to a population density of around 79.2 inhabitants per square kilometer.
