Guane is a town and municipality in the province of Pinar del Rio in Cuba . It is located in the southeast of the province and covers 717 km². The municipality borders in the north on Mantua and Minas de Matahambre , in the southeast on San Juan y Martínez and in the southwest on Sandino with the peninsula Guanahacabibes . In the south the municipality is bounded by the Caribbean Sea . Its relief is wavy. 45 percent of the area consists of hills or mountains and 55 percent of plains , which are mainly located in the coastal area.

The place was founded in 1596 as the first settlement in the area of ​​today's province. Forestry and tobacco growing quickly became the main pillars of the local economy. The Ciego Montero brand soft drinks , including the well-known tuKola , are produced in the city of Guane .

The municipality, which has existed in its current expansion since the territorial reform of 1976, now has 36,108 inhabitants, which corresponds to a population density of 50.36 inhabitants per square kilometer.
