Cornelis Abrahamszoon Bloemaert (also Bloemaert II, * around 1603 in Utrecht , † September 1692 in Rome ) was a Dutch painter and engraver .

Life

Bloemaert came from a Utrecht family of artists. He was born as the second child from the second marriage of the painter Abraham Bloemaert and was the grandson of the sculptor Cornelis Bloemaert ( Cornelis Bloemaert I ). He learned painting from his father and probably also from Gerard van Honthorst , and copperplate engraving from Crispin de Passe the Elder . After working in Paris from 1630 to 1633, he moved to Rome, where he worked with Joachim von Sandrart . He engraved numerous works in the Giustiniani collection in copper, the sculptures in the collection mainly based on Sandrart's drawings.

None of his paintings have yet been identified, but numerous signed copper engravings. The last known sheet is considered to be the copper engraving, dated 1693, of St. John pointing to Christ, based on a painting by Ciro Ferri .

He was buried on September 28, 1692 in the church of Sant'Andrea delle Fratte in Rome.
