Count De Nocte is a Finnish dark and melodic death metal band from Heinola , which was founded in 1992 under the name Endoparasites . The group is now based in Tampere .

history

The band was founded as a quartet in 1992 in Heinola under the name Endoparasites. In the fall of 1994, J. Orpana joined as the second guitarist, after which the group was renamed Count De Nocte. The group's early appearances included breathing fire and applying corpsepaint , but these elements were deleted from later appearances. After a first demo called Nos Omnes Una Manet , the band signed a record deal with the Polish label Mad Lion Records in 1996 . After that, the members had to do their military service, which made the group quiet. In 1998 the label released an EP called Sorores Nocte Genitae . In March 1999 a European tour followed with Krabathor and Yattering . After the tour A. Aronen joined them as keyboardist and the recordings for the debut album Carpe Noctum began. The release took place in 2001 on Mad Lion Records. Subsequently, the bassist Jukka Salonen left the line-up, whereupon he was replaced by Antti Ahonen in autumn 2001 and the band moved to Tampere. After working on new material, Aronen left the group in autumn 2002 and was replaced by A. Pajuoja. After lengthy rehearsals, the band went into the studio in 2003 to record the second album called Luctisonus Dolor . In March and April they went on a second tour through Europe, in which Neglected Fields also took part. Due to problems with customs, the band was initially unable to leave after a concert in Minsk , which meant that several concerts in Poland had to be canceled. After the tour Pajuoja left the group to concentrate on his own projects. In the summer of 2003, Juha Korsumäki joined as a new keyboardist. In November the band played in Tampere for the first time in a long time, before another gig followed in spring 2004. Then the singer Tuomar Nieminen moved to Switzerland , which paralyzed the band. The rest of the year the band was largely inactive, while the remaining members devoted themselves to other projects. In 2005 Nieminen moved to Ireland . However, the band still managed to write a few new songs. However, until Luctisonus Dolor was released in November via Mad Lion Records, Count De Nocte was still largely inactive. In January 2006, Orpanan decided to leave due to a lack of motivation, whereupon the keyboardist Korsumäki also took over the game of the electric guitar. In the summer of 2006, Nieminen announced his final departure. After a long discussion, the band continued their activity without him. In autumn 2007 Aatu Ketola took over the vocal post. This was followed by appearances in Finland and other parts of Europe, before Ketola quit his job in summer 2009 due to lack of time. His place has now been taken by Jiri "Abomination" Alanko and new songs have been written. However, due to time constraints, the process dragged on. In August 2011 the bassist Mika Kalmisto and the guitarist Pekka Saarinen joined as new members, after which the writing process accelerated.

style

Rüdiger Stehle from Powermetal.de wrote in his review of Luctisonus Dolor that it contained quite melodic Black Metal and drew comparisons to Dimmu Borgir and early Satyricon . Technically, the songs are perfect, although the drums sometimes sound too monotonous. For the most part, however, the songs are too poor in variety, so that the recognition value is only low. The pace of the songs is usually high. Stendahl from Metal.de also reviewed the album and was reminded of Eternal Tears of Sorrow , Kalmah , Norther , Faerghail and Children of Bodom . The group mixes Black-, Thrash- , Death- , Gothic- and some Dark-Metal as well as a few modern elements. The "sticky" and sometimes kitsch keyboards are particularly characteristic. Overall, he would summarize the music as "Melodic Dark Metal". The sound of the album sounds washed out, the vocals are nagging and monotonous, while the keyboards have an opulent character. The songs are in the medium speed range and have a bit of a cradle-of-filth character. In terms of composition, however, you can't get close to this band and the whole thing has already been better implemented by bands like Bishop of Hexen and Winterhorde .
