Couterne is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Rives d'Andaine with 2,368 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Orne in the region of Normandy . The inhabitants are called Couternois .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the previous municipalities of La Chapelle-d'Andaine , Couterne , Geneslay and Haleine were merged to form a Commune nouvelle called Rives d'Andaine and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in La Chapelle-d'Andaine. The municipality of Couterne belonged to the Arrondissement of Alençon and the canton of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne .

Couterne is located about 50 kilometers west-northwest of Alençon on the Mayenne River , which borders the municipality in the south.
