Creative Assembly (officially The Creative Assembly Ltd ) is a British game development company founded on August 28, 1987 by Tim Ansell and based in Horsham , West Sussex , England , known for its Total War strategy game series and some sports games developed for EA between 1993 and 2000 . On March 9, 2005, Creative Assembly was bought by Sega .
history
Like many other British companies founded in the 1990s, dealt The Creative Assembly originally DOS - ports of Amiga - and ZX-Spectrum -Play such as Geoff Crammonds Stunt Car Racer , Shadow of the Beast of Psygnosis , or known FIFA International Soccer from EA Sports . Although the development studio was in England, Creative Assembly worked mostly with the Australian EA studios, which is reflected in the titles produced with the Burnaby company : the official game for the 1995 and 1999 Rugby World Cup, two from the Australian Football League licensed titles from 1998 and 1999 and finally rugby in 2001 .
The developers finally achieved the breakthrough with the first game in the Total War series: Shogun: Total War . It is a mixture of turn-based and real-time strategy game , in which you could command thousands of weather and terrain-influenced units. Set in Japan's Sengoku era , the game was a huge hit and sold pretty well. This was followed by the expansion Mongol Invasion and the two successors Medieval: Total War and Rome: Total War , both again with expansions.
Because of the potential of the Total War series and Creative Assembly expertise regarding sports games Sega bought on March 9, 2005 the company for a sum of around 30 million US dollars as part of its strategy in Europe to invest-company software.
Since then, Sega has published Medieval 2: Total War , Empire: Total War , Napoleon: Total War , Total War: Shogun 2 as well as Total War: Rome II and Total War: Attila (also all with extensions).
On March 7, 2017, Sega bought Crytek Black Sea . The studio will be the second location of Creative Assembly in the future and will operate under the name Creative Assembly Sofia.
