Total War Saga: Troy is a computer strategy game from the Total War series by Creative Assembly . It belongs to the Saga series within this series and forms the second part of it after Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia . The game takes place during the Trojan War . The game is published by Sega and was released on August 13, 2020 for Microsoft Windows .

Gameplay

Total War Saga: Troy, like the other parts of the series, is a mixture of real-time and turn-around strategy. An empire can be managed on the campaign map in turn-based mode. There are certain goals to be met in order to win the game. The player has various options available to run his empire and to maintain diplomatic relations with other empires. With the help of armies, it is possible to conquer provinces and expand your empire. The battles can either be calculated automatically or be fought in real-time mode. Here you take on the role of a general and can now command your army directly in battle; The player is free to choose which tactical approach he chooses.

Innovations compared to previous series parts include: a. a resource system. Instead of money (which did not yet exist at the time of the Trojan War), the focus is now on the resources stone, wood, food, bronze and gold, which are necessary to expand your own cities, to recruit units, to maintain diplomatic relations and To conduct research. Another new feature is an extensive religion system, with the aid of which the player is granted certain advantages through the worship of certain deities. As in Total War: Three Kingdoms , heroes play an important role, namely the hero characters from Homer's Iliad . Many factions in the game are represented by their heroic leaders such as B. Achilles , Odysseus or Hector . These heroes can also intervene in battle themselves as particularly powerful units in real-time mode.

The manufacturer Creative Assembly tried to embed the mythical elements of the saga in a realistic scenario. The legendary figures such as Centaurs and the Minotaur can be found in the game as special units, whereby these are not mythical creatures, but disguised or simply particularly skilled warriors.

A multiplayer mode is not yet included, but should be submitted in November 2020.

Total War Saga: Troy was released on August 13, 2020 for one year exclusively in the Epic Games Store . Sales via Steam are also planned from August 2021 . The game was free to purchase for the first 24 hours after its release.

The release of several extensions has already been announced. A version for macOS and Linux is also planned .
