Crystal Lake is a Japanese metalcore band from Tokyo that was founded in 2002 .

history

The band Crystal Lake was founded in 2002 in the Japanese capital Tokyo . The first line-up of the group consisted of the singer Kentaro Nishimura, the two guitarists Shinya Hori and Yudai Miyamoto, as well as the bassist Seiji Nagasawa and the drummer Yusuke Ishihara. After several changes in the line-up, the group consists of front man Ryo Kinoshita, rhythm guitarist Shinya Hori, as well as lead guitarist Yuddai Miyamoto and drummer Gaku Taura. The quartet is also supported by the bassist Bitoku Sakamoto as a session musician .

In 2004 the group released a split EP with the bands Extinguish the Fire and Loyal to the Grave , which was released on Blood Ax Records , before another split followed a year later with Risen and Unholy on Alliance Trax . Crystal Lake released their debut album Dimension in 2006 through Imperium Records . In 2008 another split appeared, this time with the band Cleave . The 2010 released second album Into the Great Beyond was also released via Imperium Records. It wasn't until 2014 that the band released an EP with Cube . After signing with the US metal label Artery Recordings , The Sign was the first album to hit the global market. It is the group’s third full-fledged album. A year later, the fourth studio album, True North, was released. In 2018, Helix, the meanwhile fifth album, was released in Japan before it was released internationally in February 2019 via SharpTone Records and Arising Empire .

The band has toured several times through Europe , including among others, Bury Tomorrow . In January and February 2019, the band completed their first concert tour through the United States and Canada as the opening act for August Burns Red . In the summer the Japanese denied another European tour with The Amity Affliction with appearances on the Full Force and the Nova Rock .

On June 7th, 2020 the band started a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs for the production of the best-of album The Voyages , which contains pieces from the group's first works from their early days. The goal was reached within a few hours and the original goal was doubled within half a day. The publication is scheduled for August 5, 2020. The former Crystal Lake singer Kentaro "Veron" Nishimura is a guest musician.

music

Crystal Lake's music is described as a mix of Metal , Deathcore and Nu Metal . The singing alternates between screaming and clear singing . Spoken singing is also occasionally used. On the fifth long player, the music is described as a "deathcore bastard who creates facts between blastbeats , djent and hardcore grooves". The spherical approach sometimes evokes memories of groups like Architects and Northlane , while the crossover parts are in no way inferior to those of the French band Rise of the Northstar on their second album.

The band also incorporates electro into their music.
