Curbs is a Austrian Brit-pop - duo from Vienna .

history

The Viennese band Curbs was founded in 1999 by Alex Wunderbar (formerly with the hip-hop band Beauty Defects) and Alex Bunf (active as DJ Bunf in the Vienna club Chelsea). The band name is derived from the delimitation strips of racetracks, which are called "curbs" in English. After starting with a classic band line-up, the two decided to continue as a duo . Alex Wunderbar is responsible for the music and Alex Bunf is the songwriter . The duo is supported by various guest musicians at live concerts. In the summer of 2000 they started recording demos and played their first gig in the Shelter. Already at this early point in their career they were discovered by the alternative radio station FM4 , which promotes the band together with gotv .

2001 saw the release of the first single Flower , which the group was allowed to record at the legendary Abbey Road Studios . The mastering was done by Chris Blair . In 2002 the second single followed in 1981 . In 2002 the band performed at the Gürtel Nightwalk Festival and signed a record deal with Mario Rossoris Pate Records . In 2003 her debut album Change Everything was released . A music video was shot for Music . In the same year the duo performed at the Nuke Festival , the Donauinselfest and the Frequency Festival and played as support for Blur in front of around 4,000 fans in the sold-out Vienna Gasometer . In the same year, the single Sun appeared. The band was also nominated for an FM4 Award in the Alternative category at the 2003 Amadeus Awards .

In 2004 the single Future Sound was released . As opening act curbs were for Adam Green and Ash on. In 2007 the second album Out of Sight was released , on which well-known musicians such as Christian Eigner and Erwin Bader are represented as guests. The third work City of Dreaming Spiers followed in 2009 . The producer was Mark Gardener, former singer of the new wave band Ride . In 2010 Pate records added the compilation Decade , which brings together 30 songs by the band.

In 2012 the album Colors was released , for the first time on its own independent label Wunderbar Records.

style

Curbs belong to Austria's small Britpop scene and are both inspired by the newer wave of Britpop around Oasis and Blur , as well as influenced by the UK pop greats of the 1960s such as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles , with more recent works in particular are based in pop .
