Curtis W. Casewit

Curtis Werner Casewit (born March 21, 1922 in Mannheim ; died March 2, 2002 in Denver , Colorado ) was a German-born American writer .

The German-born Casewit studied languages ​​in Florence from 1933 to 1938 . During the Second World War he served in the French army and worked as a translator for the British army. In 1948 he moved to the United States, where he studied at the University of Denver and the University of Colorado . He then worked as a journalist and literary critic. In 1957 he was awarded the Edgar Award of the Mystery Writers of America in the category of best literary criticism .

In 1954 Casewit married the writer Charlotte Fischer-Lamberg, with whom he had three children. From 1959 to 1964 he was a buyer for a department store in Denver , after which he became a freelance writer.

He wrote numerous non-fiction books, especially guides and travel literature. The focus was on mountaineering , skiing and Colorado. He also wrote a number of science fiction short stories in the 1950s and the SF novel The Peacemakers (1960), which was also translated into German under the title Der Dictator . For the novel, which deals with the rise of a dictatorship in the United States devastated by World War III, he received the 1960 Colorado Authors League Award .

His estate is in the De Grummond Children's Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi .
