The Czorsztyn Pienines (Polish: Pieniny Czorsztyńskie ), also known as Western Pienines (Polish: Pieniny Zachodnie ), are a mountain range in the Middle Pienin Mountains in the Polish Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the Powiat Tatrzański district and the Czorsztyn municipality .

location

The mountains are located within the Middle Pienines, west of the Trzy Korony massif (the border is the Przełęcz Szopka mountain pass and the Wąwóz Szopczański gorge ), north of the Spiš Magura (border is the Dunajec ), south of the Gorce (border is the Krośnica Valley ) and east the Zipser Pieninen (border are the reservoirs Czorsztyn and Jezioro Sromowskie ), the hills of the Pieninen . It has the character of a low mountain range . The highest point is the Nowa Góra with 902  m npm .

geology

The Czorsztyn Pienines consist largely of limestone from the Jura. Fissured limestone rocks can be found throughout the mountain range. The Dunajec made two breakthroughs through the Middle Pieniny. The dam of the Jezioro Czorsztyńskie was built in the upper breakthrough between Zipser and Czorsztyn Pieninen. It has therefore been flooded since 1997 and is located below the surface of the reservoir.

nature

The mountains have a rich flora and fauna. It is entirely located in the Polish Pienines National Park . The slopes are densely wooded with mixed forest. High limestone cliffs rise above the forest. From the rocks and pastures there are wide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, u. a. the Tatras , Gorce , Insel Beskids and Sandezer Beskids as well as the massif of Babia Góra in the Saybuscher Beskids .

tourism

The valleys around the Czorsztyn Pieninen are densely populated and developed for tourism. There are two marked hiking trails in the Czorsztyn Pienines:
