The Pieninki are a mountain range in the Middle Pienin Mountains in the Polish Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the Powiat Tatrzański district and the Krościenko nad Dunajcem municipality .

location

The mountains are located within the Middle Pienines, east of the Trzy Korony massif (border is the Pieniński Potok mountain stream ), north of the Spiš Magura (border is the Dunajec breakthrough ), south of the Gorce (border is the Krośnica Valley ) and west of the Little Pieninen (The border is the Dunajec breakthrough), in the Pieninen mountain range . It has the character of a low mountain range . The highest point is the Czerteż with 774  m npm .

geology

The Pieninki consist to a large extent of limestone from the Jura. Fissured limestone rocks can be found throughout the mountain range. The Dunajec made two breakthroughs through the Middle Pieniny. The second breakthrough is the southern and eastern edge of the Pieninki.

nature

The mountains have a rich flora and fauna. It is entirely located in the Polish Pienines National Park . The slopes are densely wooded with mixed forest. High limestone cliffs rise above the forest. From the rocks there are wide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, u. a. the Tatras , Gorce , Insel Beskids and Sandezer Beskids as well as the massif of Babia Góra in the Saybuscher Beskids . The view from Sokolica is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the whole of the Carpathian Mountains .

The valleys around the Pieninki are densely populated and developed for tourism. There are three marked hiking trails in Pieninki:
