The Three Crowns Massif (Polish: Masyw Trzech Koron) are a mountain range in the Middle Pienine Mountains in the Polish Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the Powiat Tatrzański district and the communities of Czorsztyn and Krościenko nad Dunajcem .
location
The mountains are located within the Middle Pieninen, west of the Pieninki (the border is the Pieniński Potok stream ), north of the Spiš Magura (the border is the Dunajec Gorge ), south of the Gorce (the border is the Krośnica Valley ) and west of the Czorsztyn Pienines (border are the mountain pass Przełęcz Szopka and the gorge Wąwóz Szopczański ), in the mountain range of the Pieninen . It has the character of a low mountain range . The highest point is the Trzy Korony , specifically the Okrąglica summit , at 982 m npm .
geology
The three-crown massif consists to a large extent of limestone from the Jura. Fissured limestone rocks can be found throughout the mountain range. The Dunajec made two breakthroughs through the Middle Pienines. The second breakthrough forms the southern edge of the Trzy Korony massif.
nature
The mountains have a rich flora and fauna. Some butterfly species occur only on the mountain pastures of the massif worldwide. It is entirely located in the Polish Pienines National Park . The slopes are densely wooded with mixed forest. High limestone cliffs rise above the forest. From the rocks there are wide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, u. a. the Tatras , Gorce , Insel Beskids and Sandezer Beskids as well as the massif of Babia Góra in the Saybuscher Beskids . The view from Trzy Korony , along with the view from Sokolica, is one of the most beautiful in the Pienines.
