Dartagnan is a German folk-rock - pop - band from Nuremberg . The name of the band is derived from the historical figure D'Artagnan , who also became famous as the main character in the novel The Three Musketeers .

history

The group was founded in 2015 in Nuremberg by singer Ben Metzner, who also works as a mandolin player , bagpiper and flutist in the band, by Felix Fischer, who is active as a guitarist and background singer, and by guitarist and singer Tim Bernard. Metzner and Fischer also played together in the medieval rock band Feuerschwanz , Metzner and Bernard have been friends since their youth.

This was followed by a record deal with the major music label Sony Music Entertainment and the production of an album by the producer Thomas Heimann-Trosien, who had already produced albums for Schandmaul , Nightwish and In Extremo . On February 26, 2016, Seit an Since, the trio's debut album was released, which immediately entered the German album charts at number 7 . The band also made an entry in the respective album charts in Austria and Switzerland . In the same year, the debut album was released a second time as the so-called "Gold Edition" with additional titles and an additional live CD. The band was awarded the gold record for the album in 2017 .

On April 16, 2016 the trio played at the Festival of Folk Music in Halle an der Saale , which was broadcast on TV by ARD and ORF . From May 11th to 28th, 2016, the band toured Germany as headliners for thirteen concerts . On September 15, 2017, the album Verehrt und Verdammt was released, which reached number 11 in the German album charts.

The three founding members are supported live by Haiko Heinz (as the successor to Feuerschwanz member Hans Platz ) as guitarist , Sebastian Baumann as bassist and Matthias Böhm on drums . In December 2017, Felix Fischer announced that he was leaving the bands Feuerschwanz and D'Artagnan.

style

The band itself describes their genre as musketeer rock. In the criticism, comparisons with Santiano are made and the band attested to a hit rhythm, a closeness to folk music and "chummy lyrics".
