The narrow-gauge locomotives of the class L 1 and Pts 3/3 N of the Pfalzbahn were procured for the routes in the Ludwigshafen am Rhein area ( Ludwigshafen-Dannstadt , Ludwigshafen-Frankenthal and Frankenthal-Großkarlbach) , Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and Speyer ( local railway Speyer-Neustadt ) . After the establishment of the Reichsbahn , the machines were given the operating numbers 99 081 to 99 093 .
procurement
The first seven locomotives from 1889 were given the track numbers XI to XVII. Further deliveries were made in 1891 (XVIII – XX) and 1899 (XXI and XXII). In 1907 and 1910 two largely identical locomotives were delivered. These were given the numbers XXVIII and XXIX. The latter was named after the Bavarian designation scheme in force from 1909 - the takeover of the Pfalzbahnen by the Königlich Bayerische Staatsbahn - as the Pts 3/3 N class. All machines delivered up to 1907 were given a name in addition to the number.
commitment
The type L 1 locomotives belonged to the Ludwigshafen and Neustadt-Haardt depots. They were used on the routes from Ludwigshafen to Dannstadt and from Ludwigshafen to Grosskarlbach. The last two machines were used on the Neustadt-Haardt line to Geinsheim, which was opened in 1908.
Whereabouts
Locomotive no. XX "Laumersheim" was lost in the First World War . All others were taken over by the Reichsbahn. The first locomotives were retired in 1930/31. The remaining locomotives were retired between 1948 and 1957. After the Second World War, three L 1 locomotives remained in the French occupation zone, namely the company no. 99 086, 99 087 and 99 091. In addition, the operating number of the replica Pts 3/3 N remained. 99 092 and 99 093 in the area of the French occupation zone. The locomotive 99 081 came to the Wangerooger Inselbahn in 1939 and was retired there on August 12, 1952. The last operational machine was 99 093 until August 10, 1957.
construction
frame
The machines had an internal sheet metal frame that was riveted. It also served as a water tank.
drive
The drive was supported at three points. The first and second coupling axle via common suspension springs and the third axle via a transverse leaf spring. The driving and coupling wheels had a diameter of 845 mm.
boiler
The long boiler was riveted and consisted of two shots. The steam dome sat above the second boiler shot. The safety valve was on the standing boiler. The feeding equipment included two suction steam jet pumps. The smoke chamber was flush with the front wall of the housing.
control
The wet steam engines had an external Allan control and had flat slide valves. The cylinders were arranged horizontally. The third coupled axle was driven. The locomotive with the number XXVIII received a Heusinger control .
construction
Due to the routing on roads or close to them, it was decided to design the locomotives as tram locomotives . They had a completely glazed box-shaped structure and the engine was covered with flaps. The side windows could be moved to allow the train driver to observe the route. The engine driver himself stood next to the boiler. The fire hole was also on the side of the stoker.
brake
The machines had a suction air brake of the Körting type. The braking effect was applied on one side to the wheels of the first coupling axle from the front and the third coupling axle from the rear. The sand spreader was hand operated and sanded the second and third axles.
Furnishing
The machines also had a Latowski steam flare and later a steam turbo generator above the smoke chamber door outside the locomotive body for electrical lighting .
Stocks
2.1 or 1.9 m³ of water could be carried in the frame water tank. The filler necks were on the front wall to the left and right of the smoke chamber . 1.1 t of coal was stored in a box to the left of the standing boiler. The locomotives could only be paid for with money using baskets.
