DR series 99.580

99 5804 (1983)

On April 1, 1949, when the private railways were nationalized , the Deutsche Reichsbahn classified all two - axle meter - gauge steam locomotives with an axle load of eight tons under the class 99.580 .

While two-axle locomotives were still very common on small and branch lines around 1900, many locomotives had meanwhile been replaced by stronger types. In 1949 only two types were represented:

• The Lenz-Type x of the Halle-Hettstedter Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft were designated as 99 5801 and 5802,
• the NWE No. 1 and 3 of the Nordhausen-Wernigeroder Railway Company received the 99 5803 and 5804.

All locomotives were retired between 1960 and 1967.
