Dan Bakala (born December 23, 1987 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with the EC VSV in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League .

Career

Dan Bakala began his career with the Calgary Royals in the Canadian Junior League AJHL . In the 2008/09 season he moved to Bemidji State University , with whom he became the CHA champion during his first season .

After four seasons with the teams of Minnesota and Bemidji State University, he won the Allan Cup , the Canadian amateur championship, with the Bentley Generals and was voted best goalkeeper and most valuable player.

In August 2013 Bakala left North America and moved to the Scottish club Dundee Stars in the British league EIHL . With a 92.8% catch rate, he was named Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year in the 2013/14 season .

His awards grew the interest in Bakala and on April 11, 2014 the Swedish club Mora IK announced that they had signed Bakala. Bakala also started a successful 2014/15 season and was named the second best goalkeeper in HockeyAllsvenskan behind Axel Brage.

On June 10, 2015 Bakala replaced the goalkeeper Gašper Krošelj at the Swedish club IK Oskarshamn . After two seasons in HockeyAllsvenskan , Bakala signed a one-year contract with Frölunda HC in Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL) on March 31, 2016 and won the Champions Hockey League in the final against HC Sparta Prague in the 2016/17 season .

On October 7, 2017, Bakala switched to the DEL for the Düsseldorfer EG . His contract ran there until the end of the 2017/18 season. In May 2018 Bakala moved to Austria in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga for EC Panaceo VSV. The contract was terminated at the beginning of August 2019.
