Dan Tichon ( Hebrew דן תיכון* 5. January 1937 in Kiryat Haim , Haifa ) is a former Israeli politician of the Likud . He was a member of the Knesset from 1981 to 1999 , and its president since 1996 .

After attending school, Tichon studied economics and international relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He then did his military service in the Golani Brigade , also known as Brigade No. 1 well-known major association of the Israeli armed forces , and was last promoted to Sergeant Major . He then began his professional career in 1970 as a consultant for developing regions, trade and small industry in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, where he worked until 1974. In addition, he was chairman of the board of directors of the construction company Shikun Upituach from 1971 to 1981 , of which he also became general director in 1977, and also published specialist articles on economic topics.

On July 20, 1981, Dan Tichon was first elected to the Knesset. From 1981 to 1984 he headed the subcommittee on supervision of trade unions . From August 1984 to July 1992 he was Deputy Speaker of Parliament. He was then chairman of the State Control Committee from July 1992 to June 1996. In addition, Tichon sat from July 1992 to June 1999 of the Israeli-German parliamentary group. Finally, from June 17, 1996 to June 7, 1999, Tikhon held the post of President of Parliament. In the 1999 Knesset election he lost his seat in parliament.

In 2010 Tichon took over the chairmanship of the Task Force for International Cooperation in Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research (ITF) based in Berlin .
