Daniel Lewis (* 18th December 1993 in Sydney ) is an Australian professional boxer in the light middleweight . As an amateur, he was an Olympian in 2016 .

Amateur career

The 1.78 m tall middleweight (-75 kg) trained at the Dropbombs Boxing Club in Richmond (NSW) . He is Australian junior lightweight champion in 2009, Australian youth champion in 2010 and 2011 in light welterweight, Australian champion in 2013 and 2014 in welterweight, and Australian champion in 2015 and 2016 in middleweight.

He appeared internationally from 2013 when he won the Ahmet Cömert Tournament in Turkey, as well as other international tournaments in Albania, Serbia and New Zealand. He also beat the junior world champion and European champion Balázs Bácskai and the Olympian and APB champion Onur Şipal . He then started at the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , where he suffered a defeat against Rayton Okwiri from Kenya in the first fight .

In July 2014, he took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , defeating Mohamed Sillah from Sierra Leone and Kehinde Ademuyiwa from Nigeria. Due to a cut injury sustained in the fight against Ademuyiwa, he was not allowed to compete in the quarter-finals against the Indian Mandeep Jangra for medical reasons and was therefore eliminated without a medal.

In August 2015 he won the Oceanic Championships in Canberra with victories against Daniel Parkin from New Zealand and Jonathan Keama from Papua New Guinea. His subsequent participation in the 2015 World Championships in Doha ended again with a defeat in the first duel against Michael O'Reilly from Ireland. At the pre-World Cup tournament in Doha in May, Lewis had fought for first place and also defeated the Indian Olympian and World Cup third party Vikas Krishan .

In March 2016 he was middleweight alongside Josh English ( light flyweight), Alex Winwood (flyweight), Jayden Hansen (bantamweight), Harry Garside (lightweight), David Biddle (light welterweight), Kori Fano (welterweight), Matthew Sheehan (light heavyweight), Jason Whateley (heavyweight) and Joseph Goodall (super heavyweight), one of ten Australian starters in the Asia-Ocean Olympic qualification in Qian'an . Australia had a participant in each weight class.

Daniel Lewis had a bye for the preliminary round and was able to prevail in the round of 16 against Jonathan Keama, whom he had already defeated in the final of the Oceanic Championships in 2015. In the quarter-finals he defeated Arslanbek Achilow from Turkmenistan, which he moved into the semifinals. There he was defeated by the Chinese Zhao Minggang, but was able to beat the Mongol Narmandakh Shinebayar in the battle for third place. He was able to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games together with Jason Whateley, who was also eliminated in third place.

At the Olympic Games he defeated the Poles Tomasz Jabłoński in the preliminary round , but was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Uzbek Bektemir Meliqoʻziyev .

Professional career

He made his professional debut on March 23, 2019. In July 2019, he won the Australian Championship.
