Daniel "Dan" McArthur (born August 8, 1867 in Old Monkland , † November 11, 1943 ) was a Scottish football goalkeeper .

Career

society

Born in Old Monkland , McArthur signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow in April 1892 . He made his debut for Celtic in a home game of the 1892/93 season against FC Abercorn on September 10 of the same year, which was won 3-2. In the season 1892/93 and 1893/94 the Celtic finished as champions, he was only used in two games, as he was second goalkeeper behind Rab MacFarlane . From 1895 he was a regular goalkeeper at Celtic and played over 120 competitive games. In 1899 , 1900 and 1901 he was in the Scottish Cup final. In 1901, the Heart of Midlothian team lost ; in the other two finals, FC Queen's Park and Glasgow Rangers were defeated at the Old Firm . There were also two further championship titles in 1896 and 1898 .

National team

As a regular goalkeeper of Celtic McArthur made his debut on March 30, 1895 in the Scottish national team in a 3-1 win over Ireland during the British Home Championship 1894/95 . In the last game of the tournament he lost with the national team to England 3-0 at Goodison Park in Liverpool. His last of three international matches he completed on March 18, 1899 against Wales in the British Home Championship 1898/99 which was won 6-0 in Wrexham .
